Sabrieh Kaffashian (Madar Abdollahi), the mother of the Behzad Abdollahi, passed away on Tuesday, 29 June 2021, at her home in the city of Karnad in Kermanshah Province. Madar (mother) Sabrieh was a patient and resilient woman and one of the Khavaran Mothers who sought justice. The Islamic Regime of Iran executed her son, Behzad Abdollahi, in the summer of 1988 and secretly buried him in one of the mass graves in Khavaran abandoned Cemetery. For many years, Madar Sabrieh traveled from Karnad to Tehran to visit Khavaran.

Madar Sabrieh’s husband died in a traffic accident in early autumn 1979, and Behrouz, one of her sons, passed away on the fortieth day after his father’s death. In 1979, while distributing Kar magazine, Behrouz was arrested by three agents who destroyed his publications and then threw him into a river with extremely cold water. He managed to pull himself out of the river with great difficulty, but after a few days he died as a result of contracting jaundice.
Yousef, another son of Madar Sabrieh, had previously been arrested and imprisoned in 1981 together with his brother Ali Ashraf. After the events that befell the family, many relatives were forced into hiding, became fugitives, or were arrested. Yousef, too, lived in secrecy and great hardship. These circumstances coincided with the Mujahedin’s attack on Karend and Islamabad-e Gharb in early August 1988. During the Mujahedin’s retreat to Iraq, Yousef, fearing arrest, left Iran with them along their withdrawal route, despite having no ideological affinity or organizational ties with the Mujahedin. Years later, in 1991, Yousef’s body was found in the mountainous border regions adjacent to Kermanshah Province. The mystery surrounding his death has still not been resolved for his family.
Behzad Abdollahi
Behzad Abdollahi was born in the city of Karend. In September 1986, he was arrested on Keshavarz Boulevard in Tehran due to his affiliation with the Fedai Majority. In the summer of 1988, the IRI hanged Behzad Abdollahi in Gohardasht Prison alongside of thousands of other political prisoners and secretly buried them in mass graves in Khavaran.
