On Tuesday 18th February 2020, the process of the trial of the Islamic Republic of Iran before the Iran Tribunal (a Peoples Tribunal) was launched in a special ceremony in the Middlesex University.

In this event which took place as of 5.30 to 8.30 pm,

– Professor Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, (Professor of Grisham University) a member the Legal Steering Committee and a member of the Prosecution team of the Iran Tribunal;

– Professor William Schabas (Professor of International Law of the Middlesex University) and a member of the Truth Commission of the Iran Tribunal; and

– Professor John Cooper QC, Chairman of the Legal Steering Committee and a member of the prosecution team of the Iran Tribunal, addressed the meeting.

Professor Payam Akhavan (Professor of International Law at McGill University), a member of the Legal Steering Committee and the Prosecutor of the Iran Tribunal sent a message which was read by Hamid Sabi, the moderator of the meeting, member of the Legal Steering Committee and Rapporteur of the Iran Tribunal.


The event was well received by the participants which included students of law from the Middlesex University. A short documentary on the process of the Tribunal was also screened.
