Ali Reza Avaei, the current Minister of Justice of Islamic Republic of Iran, was a member of the “death committee” for the cities of Dezful and Ahvaz in 1988. He was relentless in insisting that all the political prisoners in the province of Khuzestan should be sent to the gallows. During that year, almost entire political prisoners in the prison of UNESCO in Dezful (previously the headquarters of UNESCO in this historical city) were executed. With hundreds of political prisoners blood on his hands, he will be visiting Geneva shortly. He is due to address the 37th session of Human Rights Council on 27th February.
